Music video production · Help
Do I need to own the music?
Yes. You need clear rights to the track, and we check before the project enters the pipeline rather than after it is delivered.
These steps are for any device.
Do this
What we need: word from you that you hold or control the rights to the recording and the song, for the use you have in mind. If you are an independent artist putting out your own work, your word is enough. If a label backs the track, or it leans on samples, we will ask for more.
Why we check first. A rights problem found after delivery is not fixed by taking the video down. Platforms keep records, and a claim against your channel outlives the video. One question now saves all of that.
This is the same rule as everything else here. It stops the work, rather than printing a warning and carrying on.
If that does not work
Is the rights picture messy? Maybe you cleared a sample by word of mouth. Maybe a feature has no signed contract. Maybe you made the track but do not own it. Tell us what is really going on. We are not here to police you. We would much rather plan around a real limit than trip over it later.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “We need more on the rights position” | Something in the track needs clearing. Tell us what it is; it is usually resolvable. |
| I sampled something and cleared it informally | Say so. It changes what we advise, not whether we work with you. |
Still stuck
Rights questions go to the same address as everything else. There is no separate legal channel and you will not be handed to one.
